Mr. Arif is an accomplished life sciences leader with more than two decades of experience in pharmaceuticals, vaccines, consumer health and medical devices across 13+ emerging markets in Asia, MENA and Latin America. He has held roles of increasing responsibility at Country and Regional levels at Novartis, GSK and Johnson & Johnson in Pakistan and Middle East. Arif joined Novartis in 2022 and was appointed as Country President and CEO of Pakistan operations where he led the large-scale transformation of the strategic direction and culture of the company. Arif repositioned Novartis Pakistan as an innovation centred company focusing on sustainable access and a high-performance, ethical culture. Under his leadership Novartis Pharma successfully transitioned to its new independent identity with the creation of Nouveaux Pharma Ltd.
Over the course of his career, Arif has added value and successfully navigated complex healthcare systems and evolving stakeholders and patient needs. His leadership approach combines analytical rigor with a strong sense of purpose, emphasizing long term sustainability and value creation in shaping innovation friendly healthcare systems. Beyond operational leadership, Arif’s work often sits at the intersection of business strategy, healthcare policy and systems shaping to deliver patient impact, positioning him as a leader who understands both the commercial and societal dimensions of healthcare. Arif is passionate about building the next generation of talent and organisations within life-sciences leveraging technology and AI to serve the needs of emerging markets.
Arif holds an MBA from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi and a Bachelor of Engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). He has also completed executive leadership programs at IMD Business School, Yale and Dartmouth College and is Certified Public Company Director from Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance.
